Argument: The 700 wall cannot be compared to the Berlin wall

Issue Report: US-Mexico Border Wall

  • Frank Miele, Daily Interlake 10/29/06 – “A border fence is simply not the Berlin Wall. There is a fundamental difference between building a wall to keep people out and building a wall to keep people in. There is a vast difference between the Berlin Wall, which was intended to prevent people from escaping their virtual imprisonment in a dreary economic gulag, and the proposed border fence between Mexico and the United States. The United States is not building a fence to prevent its people from escaping to freedom, but rather to protect its citizens from a huge economic and political burden which could very well bankrupt us as a nation.”
