Issue Report: Gays in the US military

A white female officer was reported saying in the book “Gays and Lesbians in the Military”: “Most gays and lesbians just want to be left alone to do their jobs. My opinion is that most gays will remain in the closet long after the ban is lifted – they just don’t want to continue living under threat.”[1]

A US soldier said, according to the book, “Gays and lesbians in the military”: “Changing the policy will not bring career soldiers “out of the closet” because they will be afraid of harassment that will be placed on them, even though the army/military says homosexuality is “officially” allowed.”[2]
