Rod Dreher. “Should we elect judges?” Belief Net. June 9, 2009Rod Dreher. “Should we elect judges?” Belief Net. June 9, 2009: “I fear that people fail to realize what is at stake in jeopardizing an independent judiciary. To have judges beholden to anyone or anything other than the rule of law can be disastrous to democracy and a just court system. Courts are the last bastions of disinterested decision-making. While one can understand how frustrating it can be to have to swallow court rulings that appear to run counter to one’s notions of how cases should have been decided, the rule of law must be administered impartially; and strident voices from the crowd should never be able to influence outcomes.”
