They questioned if requiring surveillance systems would deter crime and whether many businesses could afford the expense of installing the cameras. County officials are considering the requirement in response to the shooting death of a sheriff’s deputy last year outside a 24-hour Walgreens in Pompano Beach.

“We are talking about a false sense of security that you’re giving people,” said George Morgan with Morgan Property Group.
