Lauren Weinstein. “Cell-Phone Ban Not a Good Call”. Wired. September 12th, 2002 – Distracted driving is responsible for many accidents. But honest statistics imply that cell-phone use in vehicles accounts for only a very small percentage of those accidents, and that most drivers use handheld cell phones safely while driving.
John Walls, a vice president at the industry group Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association-The Wireless Association. – If cell phones were truly the culprit some studies make them out to be, it’s only logical that we’d see a huge spike in the number of accidents [since their introduction]. To the contrary, we’ve experienced a decline in accidents, and an even more impressive decline in the accident rate per million miles driven.[1]
