January 20, 2008 – “Another thing that bothers me about the plan is that it seems designed to encourage spending, as opposed to saving and paying down debt. I would feel better about the plan if it people were required to use the money to pay down debt, fund retirement accounts or savings/investments. If we’re going to deploy stimulus programs shouldn’t the goal to be to encourage behavior that can have a long-term positive impact on the economy? The stimulus package positively reeks of a plan to give people a short-term confidence boost, in order to buy time in the hopes that “something” will happen to fix the economy in the meantime.”
